5 Good Reasons to Sit in The Secret Garden at the Pink Cottage this Spring!

Do you need some time reconnecting with nature?

Maybe a spring time escape to a coastal cottage, with it's own private and secluded secret garden might be just the place.

The Pink Cottage with it's hidden Secret Garden may be just the very thing for you. Unwinding from our busy lives is so important... here's your chance to down tools and have a that well needed break.

5 Good Reasons To Visit the Secret Garden this Spring:

1. The Blooming Wild Flowers - In spring, the garden has already started to bloom with cottage style flowers. We keep things are a little more natural, rather than highly manicured, allowing the native wild flowers to flourish. Part of it is a herb garden, so if you're picnicking or bbq-ing there, feel free to sample whatever is growing!

Last year, the bottom of the garden was turned into a wild flower meadow, so hopes are high this spring that we'll have a lovely display again of some wild beauties. Keeps the bees busy!

Relaxing where nature has been allowed to stay is sure to uplift your mood and fill you with positivity.

2. Weather: We're in Northern Ireland and yes, it rains which means the garden is green and luscious. But our Spring weather can also be beautifully warm and sunny too!

The days are longer after the clock change and because its south facing, it gets the sun all day. It's also very, very well sheltered by high hedges and trees so there are lots of opportunities to sit outside. Even when it's generally windy, it can be calm in the garden.

3. Sit and Read

The garden chairs are so soft, squishy, warm an sumptuous! I love to recycle furniture in my interior projects, so I used two indoor chairs that were otherwise headed for the skip, as outdoor furniture.

I first coated them well in outdoor paint and made new seat cushions (and back cushions) so deep and soft you'll sink into them just like a favourite armchair!

And should it get a bit nippy, there's outdoor blankets to help extend the 'taking in of the sea air'.

4. Wildlife Sighting

The Secret Garden is home to many different species of birds, and spring is the best time to watch them in action. You can hear the musical chirping as you sit and sip coffee in the morning especially. Watch them flying around from between the feeders we fill for them, which hopefully has attracted more varieties.

I did learn the hard way that it's a good idea to keep all bird feeders away from my washing line ;-/

Depending on when you visit you might see some nest building, even young chicks leaving home!

Also, there have been sightings of squirrels and badgers at dusk.

5.Sundowners

If you love alfresco drinking and dining, we keep it very simple - there's a picnic basket to bring everything you need to the garden. We supply an easy-lit coal bbq and fuel.

AND theres the little chiminea to throw a log on for that rustic glow in the evening.

You'll find all the logs you need and some other items eg blankets, cushions, candles.

Enjoy a drink into the evening by lighting our traditional terracotta chiminea, everything you'll need is available in a storage box in the garden. Enjoy the evening as the stars twinkle overhead and the moon casts a soft glow.
